Family brewers Batemans have been brewing beer since 1874 when George and Suzanna Bateman sold their farm to rent a small brewery in Wainfleet. Neither knew much about brewing, but fortunately they bought their equipment from Edwin Crowe who also passed on all his knowledge. He also passed on his brewer who, although blind and ready for retirement, stayed on for several more years. Today Batemans are experts in their field and are renown for the quality of their beers.
